Our guide to CPI price increases to broadband and line rental

From June 2021, our broadband and line rental prices will increase each June by the CPI rate published in April of that year.

Updated 6 May 2025

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate is a figure released by the Office for National Statistics. The CPI is used for purposes such as uprating pensions, wages and benefits and can help in the understanding of inflation on family budgets. CPI measures the average price change as a percentage for a basket of 700 different goods and services which households buy.

Our broadband, line rental and Line Rental Saver will go up in price every June in line with CPI. For any customer who signs-up or take a new contract from 7th October 2020, early termination charges will also increase every June in line with CPI.

Every June from June 2021 we'll take the CPI percentage rate published by the Office for National Statistics in April of that year and increase your monthly broadband and/or line rental price by the same percentage.

If you receive a discount on your broadband and/or line rental price, the increase will be applied to this amount. If the CPI figure is negative there will be no change to your broadband and/or line rental price in the relevant year.

Here's an example to show how the price rise works.

We've assumed you have Unlimited Fibre Broadband and line rental and the price of your package is made up of:

  • Unlimited Fibre Broadband - £15.99 per month
  • Line rental - £19.99 per month
  • Your total monthly price = £35.98
  • The CPI rate published in April 2021 is 1.8%
  • The CPI rate published in April 2022 is 2.2%

Dates Monthly Price
Monthly price up to June 2021 £35.98
Monthly price from June 2021 to May 2022 £36.63

Unlimited Fibre Broadband £15.99 per month plus the 1.8% CPI rate published in April 2021 = £16.28 per month

Line rental £19.99 per month plus the 1.8% CPI rate published in April 2021 = £20.35 per month

Monthly price from June 2022 to May 2023 £37.44

Unlimited Fibre Broadband £16.28 per month plus the 2.2% CPI rate published in April 2022 = £16.64 per month

Line rental £20.35 per month plus the 2.2 % CPI rate published in April 2022 = £20.80 per month

We'll need to wait for the CPI rate to be published each April to work out how it will change your price. We'll always let you know before we increase our prices each June.

For any customer who signs-up or take a new contract from 7th October 2020, early termination charges will also be subject to annual CPI price rises each June from June 2021 based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation published by the Office for National Statistics in that April. Please see our Price Guide for details.

If we're only putting up broadband, line rental and Line Rental Saver prices in line with the CPI and you choose to cancel because of that, you'll still need to pay any early termination charges if you're still within your minimum term. This is because the amount we can increase your price by is fixed to any increase in CPI, we'll have made the price increase clear when you signed up and you'll have agreed to it in our terms and conditions.

If we put up our prices for any other reason though, you might be able to end your contract early without paying any charges.
