Connecting to your WiFi network with Windows 8
Here's all you need to know to connect your Windows 8 computer to your new router.
Windows 8 WiFi FAQs
You'll find both of them either on a sticker on the bottom or back of your router or on a pull-out tab at the back.
If you're connecting to the Internet using one of our routers, the SSID will look something like this: PlusnetWirelessABC123 or PLUSNET-Z258.
Your wireless password is made up of ten numbers and letters.
- Click on the Start Screen of your computer
- Open the Charms bar (it'll appear on the right of the screen if you drag your mouse pointer to the top-right or bottom-right corner) and click Settings
- Click on the wireless icon (it's the five upright bars, with a little star if you're not already connected to another network) at the bottom of the Charms bar
- You'll be shown a list of networks, find your router's wireless name (SSID) and click Connect
- Next type in your network security key (this is the password we mentioned earlier). Then click OK. Remember, your password is case sensitive so if you're having problems, double check what you're typing
- Next you'll be asked if you want to set up sharing. You don't need to do it now, you can always go back to it later
And that's it. You're ready to start surfing the web. If you ever want to check your connection, the wireless icon on your desktop toolbar will tell you all you need to know. The bars show you how strong your signal is and if you hover your mouse over it, it'll also tell you what network you're connected to. Another way to find it is in the Settings Charm.
